Shake the Dust

I figured it was about time I posted this most wonderful of poems by Anis Mojgani. I was introduced to Shake the Dust by Daniel Ferri at his performance workshop last year. I don’t have much else that I can say about this piece other than it was a perspective-shifting experience. So I’m going to [...]

Last Friday’s slam

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who came along to the slam last Friday at Benedict House in Queanbeyan. Despite some weather issues (it started raining so we moved inside and then it stopped raining for the rest of the night) and problems with my amp (crazy freaky shaky clicky [...]

Head to Head Haiku

Something a little more substantial this time. One of the friends I made last year, Daniel Ferri, is a teacher and poet originally from Chicago, now living in Canberra. Wussy Boy Manifesto

If you’d like to receive a copy of the e-newsletter just send a quick email to poetry.slams@gmail.com Meanwhile, here is the awesome poster I mention in the newsletter, produced by [...]

Canberra poetry slam Facebook group

For those of you who use the ‘book of faces’ there’s a group devoted to Canberra poetry slams set up by my lovely housemate. Another easy way to keep track of the slams as they come up. Speaking of which… don’t forget about the Benedict House poetry slam in Queanbeyan (more info in this post).

Ginsberg reads ‘Howl’

Just a quick post tonight, about an excellent recording of Allen Ginsberg reading ‘Howl’, along with some other interesting pieces by Anne Waldman. Well worth checking out. On a tangentially related note, I recently read Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean’s Signal to Noise which inspired me to track down a copy of the Babble! program [...]

First poetry slam for 2009!

Traverse Poetry is kicking off 2009 with a huge poetry slam in Queanbeyan! The first Traverse slam for 2009 will take place on the opening night of the Benedict House art:house festival – so, as well as the usual open mic and slam competition (with cash prizes!), there will also be a huge range of [...]
